Update 9/26: This event has been cancelled due to the weather.
Downtown Cary will transform into a hub of educational family friendly fun later this month. On Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Cary Police Department will host its annual Public Safety Day along South Academy Street.
What to Expect
The event is free and open to all. Families can explore interactive exhibits, meet first responders, and enjoy food trucks while kids try hands-on activities. Equipment displays from police, fire, and EMS will line Academy Street, giving residents a chance to see the tools and vehicles that keep Cary safe.
Along with Cary Police and Fire, representatives from WakeMed, EMS, and more than 25 partner agencies will be on hand to answer questions and share resources. The event offers a behind-the-scenes look at the many groups that work together to protect the community.
Medication Disposal
As part of Public Safety Day, a booth will be available for residents to safely dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription medications. Pills and patches will be accepted. Liquids, needles, and sharps cannot be collected.
Road Closures
South Academy Street will be closed between Dry Avenue and Chatham Street during the event. Drivers should expect detours and follow posted signs.
Parking
During events, you can expect the library parking deck to fill up quickly. The Cary Town Hall Parking Deck is always a safe choice and is about a 5 minute walk to South Academy Street where this event is being held. If you don’t want to bother with the walk or if you have additional accessibility needs, there is a free bus loop that stops at Cary Town Hall every 25 minutes.
