Downtown Raleigh has been blessed by Mon Macaron, a coffee/macaron shop, since 2021. After two years, the owner, Autumn Hicks, decided to expand into downtown Cary to the delight of many local residents.

Located at 312 W Chatham St (Suite 104, the same building as Chocolate Smiles), Mon Macron is currently undergoing its soft opening in its quaint new setting. Inside, you can find plenty of seating, various fun espresso drinks, tea, hot cocoa, fruity drinks, and of course, a whole bunch of macrons.

There is a very diverse amount of flavors to pick from. You can do something more classic, like vanilla or Nutella, or you can be more adventurous and try something different.

“My favorite flavor is our Strawberry Basil macaron; we make it with white chocolate ganache, strawberry preserves, and real basil,” explains Hicks. “It’s light and refreshing for summer.”

Autumn has lived in Cary for over a decade and wanted to contribute to the growing business landscape downtown by expanding here.

“Our family, my husband and I, with our three kids, have lived in Cary for over 12 years. We love the area and are excited about the growth in Downtown Cary, including the new park! Our kids go to the schools here and have grown up here, so we were excited for the opportunity to open a location in the previous Chocolate Smiles Village shopping center,” Hicks says. “We also love that there are other amazing bakeries and dessert shops so close, such as Chocolate Smiles, Annelore’s and La Farm!”

Autumn does not come from a traditional baker’s background. She started making macrons as a hobby about five years ago, and things quickly developed from there.

“I offered them as a raffle for my kids’ school PTA in 2019 and they were a hit. This led to renting a commercial kitchen space and offering macarons for catering to weddings, events, and more,” she tells.

Just two years after starting her venture, Hicks opened her first storefront at Seaboard Station in Raleigh. And now, two years after that, she has a 2nd shop in the heart of Cary. In addition to this new Cary location, Hicks is also opening a third location and production facility in North Raleigh later this year to keep up with demand.

In addition to the drinks and macrons, you can also find a variety of locally-made goods to purchase, from candles (that pair with the macron flavors!), greeting cards, and more!

During its soft opening, the Cary location will be open from Thursday-Saturday, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Starting in mid-August, the hours are expected to expand to also be open on Monday-Wednesday from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM, meaning you’ll be able to stop in any day of the week.
