Starting on Halloween day, the town of Cary will begin the installation of a new waterline as a part of the Kildaire Farm Road Improvement Project. During the installation of the waterline, expect to see a traffic detour when entering downtown.

The right turn lane will be closed when entering downtown northbound from Kilidaire Farm Road (preventing access to the library parking garage). Drivers should arrive via Walnut Street to access the library parking garage.

The installation of the new waterline is one part of a larger project that the town voted for in 2019. The Shaping Cary’s Tomorrow Bonds allocated $113 million in transportation projects and $112 million in parks projects. You can view all the projects the town is currently working on, separated by category, by visiting the official website here.

After this initial detour, citizens can expect another starting on November 7th, this time closing Kildaire Farm Road from Pleasants Avenue to Walnut Street. Those entering downtown northbound on Kildaire Farm Road will have to turn onto SE Maynard Rd and again onto Walnut Street. Those leaving downtown southbound will have to hang onto Walnut Street and enter SE Maynard to get back on Kilidaire Farm Road.

By the end of the project, a segment of Kildaire Farm Road (near Byrum Street) will be widened in an effort to smooth out the flow of traffic. While it is under construction, pedestrians will also have a marked detour route to avoid being blocked off.

The project is expected to be completed on November 21st, 2022.
