Runners from across the country will gather in Cary, North Carolina this Sunday for the 13th annual Veradigm Tobacco Road Marathon and VHB Half Marathon. Organized by the Tobacco Road Marathon (TRM) Board of Directors, the race has become a beloved tradition for runners and supporters alike.
In a message to runners, TRM President and Race Director Kazem Yahyapour expressed his excitement for the upcoming race, saying, “I am honored to welcome all of you, your families and friends to the 13th annual Tobacco Road Marathon in Cary, North Carolina.” Yahyapour also reminded runners to prioritize their own health and safety throughout the race, and encouraged them to seek medical attention if needed.
The TRM Board of Directors has been working hard to ensure that this year’s race is both enjoyable and safe for all participants. In addition to providing important information on the race website, the organizers have set up an Expo where runners can ask any last-minute questions. Volunteers, law enforcement, and medical personnel will also be present throughout the course to assist runners as needed.
But the TRM Board of Directors isn’t just focused on making the race a great experience for runners – they’re also committed to giving back to the community. According to Yahyapour, “After this year’s race the Tobacco Road Marathon anticipates donating close to one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to charity making the total charitable contributions over $1.75 Million since the start of this race in 2010.” The American Red Cross, Hope for the Warriors, the American Heart Association, Triangle Rails to Trails, the Food Bank of North Carolina, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation are just a few of the charities that will benefit from this year’s race.
With race day just around the corner, runners are finalizing their preparations and setting their goals. Whether they’re aiming for a personal best time or simply hoping to finish strong, the TRM Board of Directors is cheering them on. Yahyapour says, “When you finish on Sunday you will accomplish something that 99% of the people in this world have not and you should feel very proud of yourself. If you have a personal best time or a Boston Qualifying time or even just have a great run ring the bell at the finish line to announce your accomplishment.”
Despite the chilly morning forecast, Yahyapour is optimistic about the weather for race day, saying, “Sunday will be a cold morning but with minimal wind, great for racing.” He’ll be stationed at the finish line, ready to congratulate runners as they cross. And with the support of volunteers, supporters, and fellow runners, each participant will have the chance to achieve their goals and celebrate their accomplishments at this year’s Veradigm Tobacco Road Marathon and VHB Half Marathon.
